Increase in Online Scams

Whether this increase in scams is due to the financial state the world finds itself in, or it is just the way our society is going is open to debate but anyone using the internet is more exposed to scams than ever before.

The majority of us have some sort of email accounts nowadays. How many emails do you get every day that are from people trying to either scam you out of money or asking you for your contact details.

Scam Emails

Some of the common of these scam emails are as follows:-

  • Emails alleging to be from your bank stating that you internet bank account has been suspended and you need to fill in an on-line form with some personal details to activate it again. Don’t do anything. Don’t even respond to it, just delete it straightaway! They are only trying to get your details so than get access to your bank account.
  • Emails stating that you have won an overseas lottery! You don’t even do the lottery in the UK let alone overseas! These people are either trying to get you to send some money for a fee to release the so called prize or again get you to provide personal details which could lead to identity theft.
  • Another similar one is someone reporting to have inherited a vast sum of money and needs your help to release the money so they can share it with you. Yet another scam to get you to provide details or send money!

What to do if you get a scam email

Don’t even bother to answer these even if you want to give them a piece of your mind, just delete it.
And of course there are the multitude of scams of people trying to sell you a product or a service that they will either never send or will be of so poor quality that it is not worth the money you sent.
